Improved Immune System Against Disease

woman running on sunset backdropThere has been a great deal of national attention on our region, and a great deal of media coverage, much of which has added to a sense of fear and hysteria. This is unfortunate and unnecessary. We have weathered various disease outbreaks many times over the years. Common sense and prudent actions are called for, but not panic. This is the basis of my recommendations to you at this time.

First, we are open our regular hours for the foreseeable future. People need their chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic treatment is an important contributor in improving body function. You may not be aware, but it also helps fight off disease, and boosts your immune system.

Please plan to keep your appointments. If you are in a high-risk group and wish to stay home or be seen at a time when no other patients are in the office, just let us know. This is a great way to keep your spine and nervous system in the best shape possible. If you are already sick, unfortunately, we need to ask you to stay home for the well-being of our other patients.

There are many sensible actions you can take to help yourself. Remember, the vast majority of us will not contract this virus and a few common-sense actions can lessen the odds further. Most of these revolve around improving your immunity. That is the most important factor and is something most of us have a good degree of control over.

  • Eat a healthy balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid processed food, sugar, fried food, and excessive coffee and alcohol.
  • Drink plenty of water, filtered if possible.
  • If you would like to take some supplements, I would recommend 5000 IU of vitamin D3, 2000 mg of vitamin C, and 30 mg of zinc per day.
  • Get plenty of sleep. Avoid caffeine at least 5-6 hours before bed. Turn off the TV and screens earlier than you normally would. Sleep in a bit if you can. Take a nap where possible.
  • Get some exercise. This circulates your lymph system and lowers emotional stress.
    • Go to the gym if they remain open and you are comfortable with that. The healthy benefits outweigh the risks of exposure in my opinion, especially since gyms have really stepped up their cleaning procedures.
    • If you don’t want to go to the gym or can’t, there are many exercises you can do at home with minimal equipment. Search for apps like Home Workout or others.
    • Go for a walk. Get some fresh air and regular sensible sun exposure when possible. Do some gardening. Don’t just clean your house, clean out your house. Get rid of clutter inside and out. It’s exercise and it helps clear your mind.
  • Try to keep a positive attitude and lower your stress levels. Meditate. Pray. Do yoga. Calm your mind. Be grateful for what you have. Turn off the news or at least limit it to a short time each day. You do not have to be a victim.
  • Wash your hands, cover your cough, minimize touching your nose and face, and etc. like you have heard everywhere else.
Don’t panic. You have an improved immune system if you are following the guidelines above.

We are here for you. Let us know if there are additional ways we can help you.
